My Grandfather the Portrait Photographer:
As you will see in the images attached, my grandfather was an amazing photographer. For many years he owned a portrait studio in Quincy, Illinois. With his talent he captured many amazing portraits of families in the greater Quincy area. The ones that pique my interest the most are the candid ones he would capture of random people at local establishments going about their daily business, and my Dad and Aunt Pat at play, when they were young. He always had an eye for being able to frame up and at just the right time, snapping those natural moments. Thankfully he passed that talent and love of the craft on to my father, my brother, and my myself. We all enjoy photography very much, but in various ways.
What Makes Me Smile When I Photograph People:
I love to see the emotion when I photograph people. Being able to grab a moment in time when the smiles and laughs aren’t forced or faked, help to make a photo that much more authentic. I really enjoy seeing the love a family has with one another, or the laugh of a beautiful senior girl, or the natural smile of a senior boy. When I settle down to browse and select my images for processing, I love those moments because they make me smile as peruse through them. That is my ‘why’, and what makes me so happy to be able to photograph people.
What My Photography Gives Back to My Clients:
If you think about it, when a client requests to have their photos taken, they are asking for a place holder, in time, to grab those memories, for future viewing and enjoyment. Even if the off chance their toddler may not be behaving as well as they would like, we are documenting and preserving some of the most unique and organic family moments. Perhaps it’s the little one that never likes to smile, we will still get interaction and find a way to get some laughing.
We take these moments, we print them, put them in albums and pass them on down for generations to have. I’m not sure about you, but I love to browse through old family photos, especially those that include relatives from generations ago. When you get your photos taken, you are not only saving that moment for yourself and family but for your future family generations to come. You are giving them a glimpse of what life was like for your family at that time. It’s so important to keep those moments saved in time.
