Whether you’re shooting on location or in your home, pulling off a photoshoot involves a lot more than just bringing in a professional grade camera.
How to Declutter Your Home for Your Photo Session:
First off, I recommend that you put unused things away. Try to declutter as much as possible. Put away toys, clothing, dishes, shoes etc. You want a clean, stylish backdrop for your images.
Next, I would take down any holiday décor for the season you may have up, hide all trash cans and make all beds. Anything in your photos that doesn’t add to the final image will, by default, distract from the important parts of the image—you and your loved ones. Lastly, plan on doing a light dust cleanup and vacuum. This doesn’t necessitate that you get on your hands and knees and scrub the floor, however, a little tidying and organizing will be appreciated by your photographer, and by you, in the long run.
Choosing the Right Room for Your Photo Session:
When I arrive, I usually tour the house and look for the room with the best natural light. This could be your bedroom, your children's bedroom, a guest room, the family room, living room, it really just depends on where the natural light is the best.
What I May Do In The Room For The Photo Session:
When we decide on a room, don’t be surprised if I move furniture around, take pictures off the wall or remove distracting items such as lamps etc. I will raise the blinds and open curtains all the way in order to get the most light coming in. Sometimes I have even removed a bedspread or switched it out for a more neutral one.
